Claude took over
Hugo is nice and simple, but changes much faster than I change the content on this site. This created a slight mismatch between the time it takes me to add content and the time it takes me to get everything working with the now current Hugo version. As I tend to be lazy I did ask Claude Code to help, and it turns out to be very useful also for this application.
A syntax changed and argument moved or got renamed, me leaving Twitter for Mastodon, all of these small details are handled gracefully. On top the functional and content enhancements suggested by Claude (eg link checking, do you really still need the outdated UNIL pages? many of the proposal make perfect sense). So as long as Hugo and Claude like each other I will like both…
Updated theme
After some years of patching the hugo theme files of geo-hugo for each home page (or rather Hugo) update, I moved to the anatole theme. This looks more modern and seems better supported. Hopefully the rest of the site survived and you can now switch the site to dark mode.
Replace the rotating globe browser benchmark
Unfortunately the rotating globe that looked so nice the first two minutes in the hugo theme gallery turns out to be a real resource drain. I’m working on another JS visual toy with less impact on the climate.
A post via Hugo
I finally replaced the 10 year old contact page with this one based on the
Hugo static site generator and Emacs
org-mode and its hugo exporter
ox-hugo. It is probably not much nicer, but
easier to maintain. Since Hugo sites are static html, they do not
attract the usual wordpress spam and all content can be maintained in a single
org-mode file.
